Pole Dancer Against Breast Cancer

ABC (Against Breast Cancer) in February launched a television and viral campaign featuring a pole dancer in a Stringfellows dance club in Soho, London. A woman seductively dances around a pole while she strips in a nude dancing club. As her bra is removed we see that her right breast is missing. The tagline: “Anyone can get breast cancer”. Female viewers are invited to visit aabc.org.uk for advice on ‘how to check yourself’.

Against Breast Cancer funds a team of researchers based largely at University College London Hospitals focusing particularly on metastases and survival after breast cancer. The goal is to find a vaccine against breast cancer. Their three-pronged attack looks at how the cancer cell, patients’ natural resistance and their environment (especially diet and lifestyle) interact.

The breast cancer campaign was developed at Abbott Mead Vickers BBDO, London, by executive creative director Paul Brazier, creatives Selda Enver and Shaheed Peera, agency producer Paul Goodwin. Enver and Peera developed the concept of cancer happening to anyone, out of their experience of both losing a close relative to cancer.

Director was Tom Carty, via Gorgeous Enterprises, with producer Ciska Faulkner and director of photography Dan Landin.

The video stars two women, an actual pole dancer (at the beginning) and a woman with a real mastectomy (at the end). The dancer in the video had lost her aunt to breast cancer almost one year to the day of filming.

Post Production was done by Tom Sparks at Alteration Services (UK) and at The Mill, London. Editor was Paul Watts at The Quarry.

Lyrics for Born Slippy

In the doorway boy she was a lipstick boy
She was a beautiful boy and tears boy
And all in your inner space boy you had
Hands girl boy and steel boy you had
Chemicals boy Ive grown so close to you

On your telephone and in walk an angel.
And look at me your mom squatting pissed in
